We were told over and over by administration to just do the show – the VIP’s were not to be bothered – don’t try to get guests up on stage and definitely no pictures. That was the hotel requirement when we were chosen to do the private luau for the Travolta family and friends. Kelly would have none of it. She personally welcomed our keiki dancers and moms, encouraged her guests to hang loose and called her husband, John, to bring Jett up on stage to pose for pictures. After the show Kelly arranged to have the left over lau lau, Kalua pig and poke distributed to our entertainers to take home – local style custom. Many of our group were thrilled to rub elbows with the rich and famous, but the memory of the moment was how we were treated by a very special lady – with sincerity, warmth and aloha. That memory is with us still. We send our fondest love and prayers to the Travolta family during their time of heartbreak.
